When it comes down to breastfeeding, there are a lot of ups and downs throughout the whole journey. There’s lots of discomforts especially the first few days after delivery, as all your milk is coming in and can cause some engorgement. So you want something that doesn’t bother it or irritate it even more. That is just one of the main reasons as to buying a nursing bra is very essential. Of course, you will want one that is comfortable, fits the best, and very easy to use and functions with breastfeeding the best.

Nursing bras do look very similar to just your average everyday bra, they just offer more comfort and options with breastfeeding. One big difference is that they allow to feeding or pump with just  a snap-down closure or just a v shaped front that can be easily pulled to the side or tucked down.

Some Key features to look for are:

  • Comfort. You want a bra that you can comfortably spend hours in.
  • Extra hooks. Most nursing bras have up to six columns of hook and eye closures, which allow you to adjust to fit your growing breast more comfortably or they just stretch a lot more due to the extra stretchy soft material
  • Padding. Light padding will help soak up any milk leakage, but I highly recommend wearing a breast pad still and to get most of it but sometimes, some women leak a whole lot and it soaks through a little bit, so the extra padding in the bra will help absorb some of that excess milk as well.

There are 2 main types of Nursing Bras:

  • Clip down cups. These type of bras that have cups that you can just simply un-clip for feeding or pumping time, to give the baby easy access to nurse. Make sure to pick one that you can simply use with one hand to clip and un-clip as you will be holding baby while feeding when doing so.
  • Pull-down style. This style of bra resembles more of a bralette. It usually consists of you pulling it over your head, as there are no clips on it to clip or un-clip for feeding or pumping needs but is mostly shaped in a low v shaped in the front so that it is easier for you to pull back or pull to the side almost the same as clipping or un-clipping it out of the way.

Have you thought of everything for your baby and planned to get all what you need. Well have you got what you need to mama, especially if you are choosing to breastfeed. Just for your convenience, having or owning about 4 to 5 nursing bras is ideal and you will always have for about each occasion needed. Depending on how long you choose to breastfeed as well plays into this. Well here’s a list of nursing bras that I highly recommend and have personally tried.

  • Sleeping bra
  • Sports Bra
    • No, I am not referring to or recommending you to start playing any sports or go running a marathon. They are just comfortable and easy accessible to feed baby when needed. They are great for when you do get up and around and go for a walk or when the doctor does give you permission to start light exercising again. So my best pick for this is the  Wacoal Women’s Nursing Wire Free Bra as it is one of the best and the most comfortable nursing sports bra. It will help with all those needs to satisfy not only you but your baby as well.
  • Pumping Bra
    • It never really crossed my mind to have a pumping bra. I just figured I could hold my pump parts myself and just go pumping away, until I tried one for the first time and realized I had made a huge mistake thinking that they just looked silly and I wouldn’t need one, but once I used one. I found how easy and simple it was to use one. How much I had access to do a bunch of other things was great. I had both my hands to do freely and get more things accomplished around the house like folding laundry or doing my makeup or my hair or to keep up with any work that needed to be done. This is one of my favorite Bravado! Designs Women’s Maternity Clip and Pump Hands-Free Nursing Bra Accessory, Black, Medium. It is totally convenient as it held my pump parts without them moving all over the place of falling apart and resembled a regular nursing bra. It is just a little cover that slips over the nursing bra so it is very easy accessible to use.
  • Fashion bra
    • Yes, I know one of the last things on our minds we do want to get back normal and were some of our old clothes before we got pregnant especially those cute bras just to make us feel a little better about ourselves with a little more style. Well there is a way with this and it is the Bravado! Designs Women’s Original and Original Full Cup Maternity & Nursing Sleep Bra. It is cute, stylish, comfy, an convenient to catering to our baby as well. I love this and it is one of my favorites. Yes, you can also use it for sleep as well, so what’s not to love.
  • Date Night Bra
    • There are those days that we as women want to surprise our spouses with what we use to before our baby came along, or maybe just those date nights that we get ever so often and want to enjoy our time together. Well this bra not only is sexier for your spouse and boost your confidence but also is fabulous with feeding your little one as well. It is made with a flexi-wire so not the same as a regular underwire bra that gets uncomfortable over time. So it does boost your boobs up a little to give that extra shape for your husband to see, that you still got it. This bra is the Hotmilk Temptation Jet Black Nursing Bra with Flexi-wire.

  1. Love this! I underestimated the need for a good bra. My first errand after having my baby girl was to go pick up some bras. Nursing is no joke!
